Take a video Tour of our Centre (6.5MB) [view]   Vision Aberfoyle Community Centre Inc. – A Welcoming Place to Engage and Grow.   Mission The Aberfoyle Community Centre Inc responds to individual and community needs by facilitating a diverse and accessible range of social, leisure, recreational and educational activities that develop personal growth, encourage well-being and a sense of identity.   Aims & Objectives We endeavour to:

  • Plan and implement quality and affordable programs in response to community needs.
  • Provide a welcoming environment that fosters participation and community spirit.
  • Encourage, acknowledge, support and train volunteers within the Centre.
  • Develop working partnerships, network with other agencies and professional bodies to continue to create positive pathways for local residents.

Several local groups meet at the Centre. They provide a wide range of activities for residents. From arts and craft to computing or general interest to adult education. Group activities are listed on the Centre Calendar page.   Groups can even have their own page on this site to explain what they have to offer to the community. Readers can view the groups page here. Advance Care Directives – New South Australian Advance Care Directive

 

When  :  Monday 16 May 2016

This presentation focuses on the new South Australian Advance Care Directive. the presentation will be interactive with Dr Sandra L Bradley, providing the new SA Advance Care Directive form for all people attending this community event and answering questions from the audience about the document. She will discuss what she has learned from the community and her research in relation to the use of this form while learning from audience members their perspectives and experiences in this area.

 

Who will benefit :  Members of the general community interested in advance care directives, families, friends, healthcare professionals, volunteers, carers, Justices of the Peace, lawyers and anyone else associated with assisting other to complete advance care directives.

Family fun day  –  Saturday 21 May 2016

 

10am – 2.00pm at the Aberfoyle Community Centre  FREE

Join us for hours of fun in our “recycled junk-yard” style nature playground in the Centre’s car-park.

Imaginative and interactive learning through play for families with a love of the outdoors.

Enjoy performances, face painting, competitions, activities and food.

Lunch Box Ideas  –  Taking expressions of interest ONLY

Food Preparation Classes For Mums, Dads and carers.

3 x 2 hour workshops

This course is designed to help families learn how to prepare quick, healthy and nutritional lunch boxes / snacks that everyone will enjoy.

 

Cooking with Kids  – taking expressions of interest  ONLY

For Mums, Dad and carers.   This course is designed for parents with kids aged 3 – 5 years of age, to cook together, create simple, healthy and nutritious food to share with the whole family. There will be a focus on the kids to be as hands on as possible so they can learn the skills to help in the kitchen and develop a healthy relationship with food.

Aberfoyle Community Centre and BankSA have joined together in an Alliance to raise funds for the Centre to purchase equipment When you take out a New Home Loan or move your Existing Home Loan to BankSA, mention the Community Centre and BankSA will give an agreed % of the settled loan amount as a commission to help fundraise for the Centre. Mindful Meditation  with Elizabeth James

Writers Hub

Monthly   – Mondays

Time :   7 – 8.30pm

Cost :    $6.00 per evening. Meeting monthly during school term.  Meet with a growing group of keen local writers and authors to share ideas and writing. Learn skills that assist with writing development and effective critiquing. Keep up-to-date with current trends in literature, publishing  opportunities and competitions. Men’s Breakfast offers an opportunity to socialise and connect with other men. Includes guest speakers and trips to places of interest.

 

Aberfoyle Explorers”  –  Social Group   –  waiting list at present

This group meets on the 1st Friday of the month. A social group which enjoys outings and friendship. ALL welcome. Please ring the Centre on 8270 5377 to register your interest.

 

Wednesday Wanderers Social group  – 4th Wednesday each month

Outings using private cars and public transport will be arranged as well as an occasional activity day at the Centre. Some possible outings could be – Parliament House, Adelaide Oval, Botanic Gardens, SA Film Corporation.

Lunch at a nearby, economical eatery will follow

All meals, activities and travel costs are to be on a user pays basis

Annual subscription fee of $10 to cover postage, photo-copying etc.

Yoga  –  Energize and Balance

A beautiful class that is nourishing for heart, body, mind and soul. The practice is gentle yet dynamic and helps promote flexibility, strength, inner balance, energy and holistic wellbeing. Includes breath awareness, asana, flow movements, meditation, energy balancing and relaxation. A general class suitable for beginners and all abilities. Comfortable ambient environment.

The Centre has a Hall/rooms, kitchen, playground available for hire for private parties, corporate functions, educational seminars and regular activities. Any questions regarding hiring of a venue can be answered by Anne.
