Aberfoyle Community Centre Inc. - A Welcoming Place to Engage and Grow.

 

Mission

The Aberfoyle Community Centre Inc responds to individual and community needs by facilitating a diverse and accessible range of social, leisure, recreational and educational activities that develop personal growth, encourage well-being and a sense of identity.

 

Aims & Objectives

 

We endeavour to:

 

  • Plan and implement quality and affordable programs in response to community needs.
  • Provide a welcoming environment that fosters participation and community spirit.
  • Encourage, acknowledge, support and train volunteers within the Centre.
  • Develop working partnerships, network with other agencies and professional bodies to continue to create positive pathways for local residents.

 

Several local groups meet at the Centre. They provide a wide range of activities for residents. From arts and craft to computing or general interest to adult education. Group activities are listed on the Centre Calendar page.

 

Groups can even have their own page on this site to explain what they have to offer to the community. Readers can view the groups page here.

“Catering for a better future”

 

Every Tuesday 12.00 – 2.30pm  &  Thursday 9.15 – 11.45am  for 8 weeks

Commencing 15 October.  Student acknowledgement event : 5 December 2013

 

  • Workplace experience and skills in the community services industry
  • Develop skills that reduce barriers to participating in further learning and work
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Employment opportunities in food preparation and service
  • Pathway to enrolling in a formal catering qualification
  • Resources for family food preparation and budgeting

“Heartmoves”   -    New to the Centre

This is a gentle, physical activity program

 

Commencing   :  Monday 22nd July 2013

Time :     12.15 – 1.15pm

Cost  :  $5.00 per session

 

Suitable for anyone who hasn’t exercised for a while

Safe for people with stable long term health conditions  -  increase physical activity, maintain a healthy lifestyle, assist with lowering blood pressure and improve cholesterol control, manage weight, prevent falls and injuries from falls.

 

Sessions include :   warm up, cool down and stretching, Aerobic and resistance training,

Our accredited Heartmoves leader will assist you to complete a pre-exercise screening form

 Active @ Aberfoyle Social Group

 

 

This social group meets every 2nd Friday of the month for outings and friendship.

 

There are now a few vacancies for new members to join.

Men’s Breakfast  -  we now have some vacancies for new members

 

 

When : Third Wednesday of each month

Time : 8.00 – 10.00am   Cost :  $5.00

 

Men’s Breakfast offers an opportunity to socialise and connect with other men.

Includes guest speakers and trips to places of interest

Aberfoyle Explorers“  -  Social Group 

 

This group meets on the 1st Friday of the month. A social group which enjoys outings and friendship. ALL welcome.

Family Carer Program  -  Alzheimer’s Australia SA

A FREE program for family members caring for a relative with dementia living in the community.

Topics discussed in the workshop include :

  • understanding dementia
  • responding to changes in behaviour
  • effective communication
  • the caring role
  • planning for the future and legal issues
  • services and support available to you

IMMUNISATION   -    At the Centre  -  every Thursday during school term only,  2 – 6pm  

No appointment necessary

 

NO cash payments.

Payment may be made by credit card or you can pre-pay at the Council Office (Hub) and bring your receipt or Immunisation will invoice you.

Immunisation Accredited Registered Nurses are available at all clinics for advice on immunisation and administration of vaccines and other fee for service programs. For further information contact Council’s Immunisation Services Department 8384 0681

 

During school holidays the only venue for clinics will be the GP Plus Super Clinic at Noarlunga :

The Centre has a Hall/rooms available for hire for private parties, corporate functions, educational seminars and regular activities. Any questions regarding hiring of a venue can be answered by Anne. Please phone to make an appointment with her 8270 5377. Mondays – Fridays :  9am – 4.30pm.
